## Description

This adapter lets you use in-ear headphones or headset a 3.5mm TRS phono connector, with a theatrical/broadcast comms panel or beltpack with 4-pin male XLR headset connector. ***It only works for listening to audio. If you need to listen and talk, see [the H2X](https://lectronz.com/products/h2x-comms-headset-adapter-xlr-4f-to-35mm)!***

It is confirmed to work with Riedel Bolero and Artist panels/beltpacks. It should work just fine with any other comms panel or beltpack with 4-pin XLR-M connector.

## Important Notes
Unlike the [H2X](https://lectronz.com/products/h2x-comms-headset-adapter-xlr-4f-to-35mm), the H2X-L does not require transformer isolation. This means it is not limited when it comes to the type of headphones used. The only limitation is the headphone driver of the comms panel or beltpack. The XLR-4 connector only supports mono audio, which is connected to both left and right ears in parallel.

## Instructions
Insert the 3.5mm headphones plug of your headset into the H2X adapter prior to connecting the H2X to the comms beltpack or base station. This will ensure that the beltpack correctly detects the headphones.

You may need to turn down the master headset volume on the comms device, as in-ear headphones are much more sensitive than over-ear comms headsets. On Bolero, this can be achieved by briefly pressing the Menu button, then scrolling one of the two encoder wheels.

Any buttons on the 3.5mm headset have no function, as comms stations don't support controls on 4-pin headset connector.

## Design
I designed H2X as I was sick of sharing uncomfortable and unhygienic comms headsets at work in a theatre, but Bluetooth is not always supported for comms headset connection.

The H2X-L was a modification from a request from a customer working in the broadcast industry, where camera operators are often not expected to reply on comms, but need to listen to the director's calls.

It also suits those who use gooseneck panel microphones or fist mics, and want to use their own headphones to listen.
