## Description

### Is that a life flight that just flew low and fast over my head? Are the fire planes near by? Is that a police chopper circling or the news? Freeway flying speed traps...
###

###### Turn nearby air traffic into a tiny desktop radar. ESP32 Plane Radar is a compact Wi-Fi aircraft display built around an ESP32-S3 and a 1.28-inch round screen. Once configured, it shows nearby ADS-B aircraft on a classic sonar-style radar grid, including aircraft position, bearing, callsign/type/altitude tags, heading markers, and speed vectors.
######

This is a fun, glanceable gadget for aviation fans, makers, desk setups, ham/radio hobbyists, and anyone who has ever looked up at the sky and wondered what just flew over.

The device connects to your Wi-Fi, uses your configured latitude and longitude as the radar center, and pulls live aircraft data from the public adsb.fi open data API. Updates occur about every 5 seconds, giving the display a near-real-time “what’s around me?” feel.

**Features**

* Live nearby aircraft display using ADS-B data from adsb.fi
* Round radar-style interface with rings, crosshairs, compass labels, and center point
* Aircraft markers with heading triangles, speed vectors, and aircraft info tags
* Wi-Fi setup portal via the PlaneRadar-Setup access point
* Persistent settings for Wi-Fi, location, units, and range
* ESP32-S3 based with 1.28-inch 240×240 round display
* Open-source firmware for makers who want to inspect, modify, or flash their own build

**Setup**

On first boot, connect to the PlaneRadar-Setup Wi-Fi network and open the setup page. Enter your home Wi-Fi, latitude/longitude, and preferred distance units. After saving, the device reconnects automatically and begins showing nearby aircraft.

**Notes**

ESP32 Plane Radar requires Wi-Fi and access to the adsb.fi API to display live aircraft. Aircraft visibility depends on available ADS-B coverage in your area and public data availability. This is a hobbyist situational-awareness display, not certified aviation equipment.

*New models under development with onboard gps and larger display. Look for it this fall*

**Great for**

Aviation enthusiasts, makers, electronics hobbyists, desk gadget collectors, STEM demos, and anyone who wants a tiny live aircraft radar on their shelf. *Coming soon to your dashboard*
