There are two versions of the joiner, White 1-to-1 and Purple 1-to-3 both and for use with 1 mm pitch 3-pin JST SH compatible cables.
The White 1-1 joiner is designed to extend cables with pin 1 wired to pin 1 as used with the Raspberry Pi 5 UART / Raspberry Pi Debug Probe UART and SWD (debug/program).

The Purple 1-3 joiner can be used to extend cables with pin 1 wired to pin 3.

You can also use the joiners to convert between cable pinouts.
- Two cables wired "1-3" and a White 1-1 joiner is the equivalent of a cable wired "1-1".
- Two cables wired "1-1" and a Purple 1-3 joiner is the equivalent of a cable wired "1-3".
- One cable wired "1-1" and one cable wired "1-3" with a White 1-1 joiner is equivalent to a cable wired "1-3".
- One cable wired "1-1" and one cable wired "1-3" with a Purple 1-3 joiner is equivalent to a cable wired "1-1".
