Earrings with colored LED's designed for the artist. 7 different colored LED's are lit in different patterns and controlled by an ATtiny84a. These earrings are powered by a CR1225 coin cell battery, and will last at least 3 days, and up to 2 weeks (depending on the pattern). A button on the back of the earring can be used to select different patterns, or to turn off the device.
These earrings can be programmed with the Arduino IDE, using a SPI programmer (for example the Arduino UNO as programmer).
My wife really likes the previous designs, for example (Spiral), and challenged me to make something for the artists. Using Inkscape I designed the different layers for the PCB board. The handle of the brush is the plain fiberglass of the PCB board, while the metal ferrule is a large soldering pad.
The earrings are entirely assembled by hand. I use a stencil and reflow oven to install the components on the font, the back is done with a soldering iron. The Arduino IDE is used to program the micro-controller. To conserve energy, the ATtiny84a is in sleep mode, 99.9% of the time. It only wakes up to determine which LED should be turned on or off before entering sleep mode again.
