Recover Disabled ATtiny UPDI Interfaces without the need for a computer! The ATtiny UPDI Recovery Programmer is a standalone tool designed to recover supported Microchip ATtiny microcontrollers when the UPDI programming interface has been accidentally disabled through incorrect fuse settings. No PC connection is required. Simply connect the programmer to your target device, and it will automatically restore the UPDI interface and return the fuse settings to their factory defaults.
What Does It Do?
Many newer ATtiny devices use the UPDI pin for programming. Unfortunately, the UPDI pin can accidentally be configured as a normal GPIO pin through fuse programming, making the device appear "bricked" and preventing normal programming.
This programmer solves that problem by:
Features:
Easy to Use
Optional Read-Protect Recovery Feature
If you need to access firmware on a device where the UPDI pin was disabled, install jumper J1 to skip the erase operation. Once the UPDI interface has been restored, you can use your normal UPDI programmer to read the device.
Note: If lock bits have already been programmed, the device contents cannot be recovered. The erase operation must remain enabled.
LED Error Codes:
The programmer uses LED patterns to indicate the result of the recovery process.
Yellow LED — 2 Flashes, Device is locked Possible causes: This occurs only when jumper J1 is installed and the device lock bits prevent access.
Yellow LED — 3 Flashes, UPDI communication error Possible causes: Incorrect wiring, No device connected, Unsupported or damaged device
Yellow LED — 4 Flashes, Unsupported device Possible causes: The connected ATtiny device is not included in the supported device list.
Yellow LED — Solid ON, Fuse verification failed The fuse values did not verify after programming.
Green LED — Solid ON, Success! Your ATtiny device has been successfully recovered.
Why Was This Made?
I needed a simple way to recover from a catastrophic fuse programming mistake without having to purchase expensive professional recovery equipment. With modern chip shortages, replacing a device because the UPDI interface was accidentally disabled is frustrating and often unnecessary. This small programmer can recover multiple "bricked" devices in just minutes and can quickly pay for itself after only a few uses.
Designed for Simplicity
The goal was simple: No complicated, bloated, frustrating & slow windows application! No expensive equipment No computer required Connect it and recover your device This is a dedicated recovery tool for Microchip ATtiny UPDI devices.
Technical Support Included
You are purchasing directly from the original designer, not a reseller. If you have questions or need assistance, you will receive direct email support. I provide honest, quick responses and will do my best to help you successfully recover your ATtiny device.
