Digital Chord VCO 'Le Module 01'

Whether you’re in need of subtle chord sequences, crispy rave stabs or big drone sounds, Le Module 01 can provide. With a wide range of chord voicings, waveforms and 1V/Oct tracking, it’s sure to fill in every last bit of your chord needs. Ranging from big lush sounds to crunchy 8-bit waves, it packs a punch in a small footprint.

Le Module 01 was the first AE module conceived by M4vrick, French maker fanatic and half of BF Synths. It is a digital chord VCO for the AE Modular synthesizer format. In this latest iteration, it's CV input is now listening to the standard 1V/oct, making it playable by any conventional keyboard or quantizer. The two extra control knobs and corresponding CV inputs can change the specific chord, it's voicing and the waveform.

In short:

  • Digital chord VCO
  • Frequency control knob
  • Frequency CV input in 1V/oct standard
  • Table knob to change which chord is played
  • Table CV input
  • Wave knob to select which waveforms are played from the selected table. Full clockwise makes it go into 'single wave', creating a thick single note sound (very handy for tuning!).
  • Wave CV input

From crunchy to smooth, a sound for every patch

For the nerds like us: the module is based on the ATMega chip (used in Arduino Nano, and as such Grains as well). This gives it a very specific digital character that makes it wildly different in timbre to the Tangible Waves Solina module. If you want to have a showcase of the wide array of sounds and vibes that are possible with this module, be sure to check out the great demo/tutorial from RSKT:

We've been using this module non-stop in all type of patches, going from moody, murky underlying drones, to bright pads and even super percussive rave stabs. It's fairly simple to patch up, yet highly effective. Great for evolving generative pieces as well: coupling a slow modulation source to the table/wave inputs, gives evolving yet melodic drones (pairs up nice with the SLOTH ;) ).

Cheers!

BF Synths is founded on the philosophy to support local businesses, with Belgium and France as home bases. What we can do ourselves, we do ourselves. What can be done locally, we do locally. For example, the PCBs are manufactured in Germany, the assembly and front plates are homemade by M4vrick in France.
The initial spark for BF Synths arose when local creator M4vrick sent a message to analog experimenter Keurslager Kurt. Kurt had shared his DIY oscillator on the AE Modular forum, but did not have the technical chops or resources to create a full-fledged, compact module from it. The collaboration resulted in the widely enjoyed 555 Oscillator, and the idea for a wider range of modules was born.
On this page you can also find the DIY Kits from Keurslager Kurt.
