A chaotic, slow modulation source based on NLC's Single Sloth

This adaptation is brought to you with permission from original creator Non-Linear Circuits. They get a fair share for every kit sold.

Are you slowly grappling with life and would like an unconditional friend who’s following that same path? Our 2SLOTH slowly moves through the jungle, doing its own thing without minding your patching turmoil. It provides a natural, evolving and chaotic CV source to breathe life in your bleeps and bloops.

In short:

  • Perfect for breathing subtle life into patches
  • Ideal for generative patching
  • Two slow, chaotic CV sources
  • 1st Sloth: +-15 sec oscillation
  • 2nd Sloth: 30-40 sec oscillation
  • Each Sloth has three outputs
  • x: output swinging over a large voltage range
  • y: another, different output swinging over a smaller voltage range
  • z: the inverted output of y
  • The outputs are chaotically related, but not the same
  • The ‘torpor’ knob influences the chaotic behaviour
  • Makes for a great pet
  • 1U

Slow, slower, sloth

2SLOTH is a slow, chaotic modulation/CV source for the AE Modular format. It is an adaptation of the legendary Eurorack "Sloth" circuit from Non Linear Circuits. Each 'Sloth' has three, slowly moving outputs which are perfect for modulating parameters to bring your patches alive. The top Sloth has a 'cycle time' of around 15sec, while the bottom one usually has a cycle time of 30-40sec. I say usually, because the Sloth chooses what it does, the LFO has no fine control and changes with every oscillation. Each output can 'orbit' around two different CV points (read: the lfo can be 'centered' around two different axes), and can change from the one center to the other, seemingly at random. You can influence the chance of it to change it's orbit with the pot, but do not expect a lot of control, because that is not the point. There are no inputs, the Sloths go their own ways.

BF Synths is founded on the philosophy to support local businesses, with Belgium and France as home bases. What we can do ourselves, we do ourselves. What can be done locally, we do locally. For example, the PCBs are manufactured in Germany, the assembly and front plates are homemade by M4vrick in France.
The initial spark for BF Synths arose when local creator M4vrick sent a message to analog experimenter Keurslager Kurt. Kurt had shared his DIY oscillator on the AE Modular forum, but did not have the technical chops or resources to create a full-fledged, compact module from it. The collaboration resulted in the widely enjoyed 555 Oscillator, and the idea for a wider range of modules was born.
On this page you can also find the DIY Kits from Keurslager Kurt.
