The idea of Clockwise is to be a smart watch in which we can change the screen theme and in the future add widgets that make sense for our context, such as weather forecast and news. Think of it as a smartwatch, but bigger (and with lower resolution) to hang on the wall or on a shelf.

The entire project and its components are open-source and if you have some knowledge of Arduino/ESP32 it won't be difficult to create new themes or customize it however you want. It is also possible to build a Clockwise by purchasing the separate components and following the instructions from the https://clockwise.page/ website.

How it works?

The clock is made up of only three components, the display, which is a 64x64 pixel RBG LED matrix, the controller board which is responsible for displaying images, connecting to the internet, reading sensors, etc. I'm using Trinity as a controller board because it's already tested and ready for this job, just like Clockwise, Trinity is also open-source and can be seen here. Finally, it is necessary to have a power supply of 5v to power the display.

To put the clock to work for the first time, it is necessary to connect the clock (already connected with the power supply) to the computer through the USB-C cable, go to https://clockwise.page/ and select the desired theme for to be installed on the watch. In the end, you will need to configure your Wi-Fi, just follow the instructions on the screen or, if you have questions, consult the welcome page.

Disclaimer

Clockwise is still a product that is in beta and it can be difficult for a person with little experience with technology to configure and get it working. While I've been working a lot with documentation and trying to make things easier on this process, it's not entirely intuitive. If you still want to venture into this project, join the community and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to open an issue on GitHub so we can help you!
