Datasheet

What is it?

A compact, ready-to-use breakout board for the ICM-42670-P, TDK InvenSense's latest generation 6-axis IMU featuring a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope. Designed for makers, engineers, and startups who want cutting-edge motion sensing without the headache of sourcing obscure components or wrestling with tiny LGA packages. Plug it into your breadboard and get accurate, low-noise motion data in minutes.

Fully compatible with 3.3V and 5V systems, works out of the box with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, STM32, and more over I2C or SPI and I3C compatible MCUs.

Why did you make it?

The MPU-6050 and MPU-6500 have been the go-to IMUs for years, but they're old. The MPU-6050 is effectively end-of-life, and hobbyists are still using decade-old silicon because the newer, better alternatives are nearly impossible to find in a maker-friendly form factor.

The ICM-42670-P is what the MPU-6500 should have evolved into: lower noise, better power efficiency, a built-in FIFO, hardware motion processing, and far superior temperature and shock stability.

This board exists because modern motion sensing should be accessible to everyone, not just teams with the resources to spin custom PCBs. Whether you are doing it to learn, to put something on your portfolio or building a product.

What makes it special?

Drop-in upgrade path from MPU-6050 / MPU-6500. Familiar I2C/SPI interface, similar register map concepts, and an easier migration than you'd expect. Swap out your old IMU without rethinking your whole design.

Best-in-class noise and stability. The ICM-42670-P delivers the lowest gyro and accel noise in its IMU class, with exceptional stability against temperature variation, SMT-induced offset, and shock loads up to 20,000g. Your data stays clean under real-world conditions.

On-chip APEX Motion Processing. Pedometer, tilt detection, freefall detection, wake on motion, and significant motion detection all run directly on the sensor, offloading your MCU and enabling always-on sensing without burning your battery.

Ultra-low power consumption. 0.55 mA in Low-Noise mode and just 3.5 uA in Sleep mode, making this ideal for battery-powered wearables, hearables, drones, and any application where power budget is tight.

Onboard voltage regulation and level shifting. Just connect power and signal, no external components, no datasheet archaeology, no surprises.

Built-in 2.25 KB FIFO buffer. Offload data collection from your MCU and never miss a sample, even during interrupt latency spikes.

Breadboard-friendly. 0.1" pin pitch, clearly labeled pins, no fine-pitch soldering required. Prototype today, integrate tomorrow.
