MagicShutter is a DIY smart motor kit for automating strap-driven (belt-operated) roller shutters. It replaces the manual strap winder and turns an existing blind into a smart, motorized system without modifying the original shutter mechanism.
The device is mounted externally on the window frame or extension profile, in the same position as the original strap winder.
Control is primarily via MQTT and local smart home systems such as Home Assistant.
Key Features:
Installation Requirements:
Please watch the following videos before ordering. They explain how the MagicShutter system works, how to select the correct orientation, and how the installation and control process operates. These videos provide the best overview of the product’s function and intended use. Note: The following videos are in Hungarian. English subtitles are available.

Options:
Core Kit Complete mechanical and electronic core components for advanced DIY builders. The enclosure, wall mount, top and bottom covers must be precisely 3D printed by the user according to the provided STL files. Requires full assembly and installation.
Full Kit Fully prepared hardware kit with enclosure included. No 3D printing required. Requires external 24V power supply, wiring, and installation by the user
Premium Kit Fully assembled and tested unit including power supply. No 3D printing or assembly required — only installation is needed.
Important Notes:
In the production of 3D printed parts, a precise fit is essential (especially for housings), as the long-term durability of the mechanical components is only guaranteed through proper alignment. Based on our tests, a correctly printed drive system can achieve a lifespan of 5,000 cycles, even under significant load.
A note from the developer
I am a private maker. Please note that I can only sell as a private individual to other private individuals. No VAT invoices can be provided.
MagicShutter is the result of many thousands of hours of engineering work, including mechanical design, 3D modeling, drive system development, prototyping, testing, electronics, firmware, and software integration.
The mechanical layout and operating concept are based on a protected technical design. By purchasing a kit, you are granted the right to build and use the device for personal use only, according to the selected package type and quantity.
The system supports both Tasmota-based MQTT operation and a server-based mobile application control concept. Under certain conditions, the Tasmota firmware can be updated or replaced with newer or custom builds, as long as the original internal communication and control logic are preserved.
Mobile app features are currently experimental (beta). An Android APK file is provided, and the iOS version is available via Apple TestFlight. The mobile application is provided as a convenience tool only and is not part of the product offering.
An important distinction between the available packages is that the Premium Kit is designed to be more user-friendly in terms of assembly. With this option, the mechanical and electronic parts are largely pre-integrated, and the user mainly needs to focus on installation and basic setup. However, even the Premium Kit is offered as a developer-oriented module, not as a consumer-ready commercial product.
This project is intended for technically minded users who appreciate transparent engineering solutions and understand that this is not a mass-produced consumer device, but a carefully developed DIY system.
Limited developer release
This product is offered as a limited early developer kit for evaluation, testing, and feedback purposes. It is not intended as a mass-produced consumer product.
Availability is limited and this release is provided to support further development and refinement of the MagicShutter system.
Thank you for supporting an independent engineering project and helping bring a complex mechanical and smart home concept into real-world use.
