About:

This is a kit that reuses the 68B50 and 74HCT04 IC's from the standard RC2014 Serial I/O. It makes a Serial I/O that only responds to I/O Requests on addresses (decimal) 128 and 129 (which the standard RC2014 BASIC expects), whereas the standard Serial I/O has simpler address decoding that will respond to I/O Requests on addresses anywhere between 128 and 191.

MG010 came about because the standard serial I/O was clashing address-wise with another device, that I was unable to alter the address of (long story...). This is a rare case - the standard serial I/O will play nicely with a huge range of "designed for RC2014" cards from multiple vendors.

MG010 also has an optional output on USR3 that tells the rest of the system when it's active. This can be used to gate IORQ to a device that thinks it owns a range of addresses which include 128 or 129. (Again, long story, this is addressing a very rare corner case.)

MG010 is now supplied ready to accept components to add a clock capability. This can be useful when it is desired to run the rest of the system at a clock speed that doesn’t divide down to a usable serial baud rate.

What's included?

A PCB and components* are included, including sockets for all ICs.

*The 68B50 and 74HCT04 are not included and must be supplied by the Buyer. Also, the components for the optional clock capability are not included:

  • X1 Crystal (7.3728MHz for 115,200 serial port baud rate)
  • C4, 5 Capacitor, ceramic, 22 pF
  • R4 1k Resistor, 250mW
  • R5 1M Resistor, 250mW
