OpenValve Connection Accessories

OpenValve has a standard ½″ BSPP male thread on both sides, allowing it to be integrated with a wide range of standard irrigation and plumbing hardware.

The accessories offered here are optional and provide convenient adapters for some common irrigation setups.

Upstream vs. Downstream

  • Upstream accessories connect OpenValve to your water source, for example a rain barrel, elevated tank, garden tap, or supply hose.
  • Downstream accessories connect OpenValve to your irrigation system, for example a PE main line, flexible hose, or garden-hose connection.

Choose each connector based on the type of connection you already have or want to use on that side of OpenValve.

Which connector should I choose?

Irrigation Tank Conversion Kit

Best for: turning almost any suitable water container into a gravity-fed irrigation tank with a complete upstream connection to OpenValve.

The Irrigation Tank Conversion Kit provides everything needed between the water container and OpenValve. Simply make a suitable hole in the side of the container, install the included tank connection, and connect the supplied hose to OpenValve.

The kit includes:

  • the connection for installing an irrigation outlet in the water container
  • 2 m of hose
  • the fitting required to connect the hose to OpenValve

This makes it an easy option if you want to build a new gravity-fed setup and do not already have a suitable outlet or irrigation connection on your water container.

With the kit, many suitable containers can be converted into an irrigation tank without having to source the individual upstream fittings, hose, and OpenValve connector separately.

½″ Female BSPT → 16 mm (½″) PE Pipe Compression Fitting

Best for: connecting OpenValve directly to standard 16 mm PE irrigation pipe.

The compression fitting securely connects to 16 mm PE pipe without requiring a separate hose adapter.

Typical uses:

  • Upstream: connecting OpenValve to a water source that is already supplied through a 16 mm PE pipe
  • Downstream: connecting OpenValve directly to a 16 mm PE irrigation main line

This is a particularly useful option for garden beds, greenhouses, and other irrigation systems using standard 16 mm PE pipe.

PTFE tape is required on the threaded connection to OpenValve.

½″ Female BSPP → 13 mm Hose Nozzle

Best for: connecting OpenValve directly to a flexible 13 mm (½″) hose.

The hose nozzle provides a simple transition from OpenValve's threaded connection to a conventional flexible hose.

Typical uses:

  • Upstream: running a flexible hose from a rain barrel, tank, or other water source to OpenValve
  • Downstream: connecting OpenValve to a flexible irrigation hose

This is a simple and versatile option for low-pressure irrigation setups, such as gravity-fed systems. Flexible tubing should only be used where it is rated for the available water pressure.

½″ Female BSPP → Quick-Connect Male

Best for: connecting OpenValve to a standard garden-hose quick-connect coupling.

Choose this adapter if your existing hose or irrigation hardware already uses a common quick-connect system. The adapter allows OpenValve to be connected and disconnected without unscrewing threaded fittings.

Typical uses:

  • Upstream: connecting a garden hose or water source with a female quick-connect coupling
  • Downstream: connecting OpenValve to a hose or irrigation line using a female quick-connect coupling

This is especially convenient for setups that are regularly disconnected, moved, or stored between seasons.

½″ Female BSPT → ¾″ Female BSPT Reducing Coupling

Best for: connecting OpenValve directly to a standard outdoor water tap.

Most garden taps have a ¾″ male thread, so this reducing coupling allows OpenValve to be screwed directly onto the tap without requiring an additional hose or adapter in between.

Typical uses:

  • connecting OpenValve directly to a garden tap
  • connecting to another water source with a compatible ¾″ male thread
  • creating a compact pressurized setup with as few intermediate fittings as possible

This connector is offered as an upstream accessory because it is primarily intended for connecting OpenValve directly to the water source.

PTFE tape is required on the threaded connection to OpenValve.

PTFE Tape

Some threaded fittings seal directly on the threads and therefore require PTFE tape.

PTFE tape is required for:

  • ½″ Female BSPT → 16 mm PE Pipe Compression Fitting
  • ½″ Female BSPT → ¾″ Female BSPT Reducing Coupling

Adapters that seal using their own gasket or sealing element do not require additional PTFE tape.

Still not sure which connectors you need?

If your setup uses a different connection, you do not have to use the accessories offered here. OpenValve uses standard ½″ BSPP male threads, so compatible adapters, hoses, and fittings can also be sourced from irrigation and plumbing suppliers.
