This is a fun, glanceable gadget for aviation fans, makers, desk setups, ham/radio hobbyists, and anyone who has ever looked up at the sky and wondered what just flew over.
The device connects to your Wi-Fi, uses your configured latitude and longitude as the radar center, and pulls live aircraft data from the public adsb.fi open data API. Updates occur about every 5 seconds, giving the display a near-real-time “what’s around me?” feel.
Features
Setup
On first boot, connect to the PlaneRadar-Setup Wi-Fi network and open the setup page. Enter your home Wi-Fi, latitude/longitude, and preferred distance units. After saving, the device reconnects automatically and begins showing nearby aircraft.
A short press of the BOOT button cycles the radar range. Holding BOOT for 3 seconds clears Wi-Fi, location, and unit settings and reboots into setup mode.
Notes
ESP32 Plane Radar requires Wi-Fi and access to the adsb.fi API to display live aircraft. Aircraft visibility depends on available ADS-B coverage in your area and public data availability. This is a hobbyist situational-awareness display, not certified aviation equipment.
New model under development with onboard gps. Look for it this fall
