The Protosynth line of modules are intended to accelerate development of more complex synth and audio projects. The Protosyth Preamp is the first in a line of modules built around a quality OpAmp designed for audio with gain control for use in protoboards.
The Protosynth Preamp module has 0.1" pin headers commonly found on electronic protoboards, allowing you to quickly add an AC coupled 1/8" audio input with 0-4x gain control to your prototype project. Designed with an audio quality OpAmp (TI OPA1637) allowing for up to 36V max (+/- 18V) power input and provides an AC coupled output.
As I started down the path of designing my own audio and synthesizer equipment, I became frustrated with having to dedicate time and whiteblock space for common blocks of circuitry like input stages, output stages, etc.. Furthermore, higher end audio OpAmps are hard to find in through hole packaging that can just be plugged in. I decided to build small modules based around higher quality devices that I can just use without dedicating a huge chunk of space so I can get on with the more interesting parts of the design.
