10 JAN 2024 :: Device was upgraded. Added second temperature sensor for measuring heatsink temperature via freeds software. Now not necessary add external temperature sensor for this need.

PWM 16A AC Leading Edge Dimmer is a low cost, high-performance dimmer for 50Hz and 60Hz AC lines.

Controlled via input PWM signal for easy connection with a master device.

Designed for controlling the high power of resistive and inductive loads.


Firmware has been updated -

  • added "average slide" digital filter for pwm input signal. This will allow to adjust the output ac power more precisely.
  • fixed bug with led OVERHEATING. Sometimes it turns on for no reason.
  • added protection for temperature sensor. If for any reason it fails, the cooling fan will turn on when the output power is more than 50%.

Two modification of FreeDS upshields are available:

  • V1 upshield, green color pcb. Simple design, for Heltek ESP32 microcontroller. Heltek microcontroller doesn't included. User should buy it seperatelly and flash/programm by himself.

  • V2 upshield, black color pcb. Fully assembled board with ESP32 microcontroller, OLED display. The ESP32 microcontroller is already flashed with the FreeDS firmware. External antenna for longer WIFI signal range. The best solution for FreeDS, turn it on and use it.

When you're operating with a current of more than 5A, set the output level slowly!

For example, if your load current is 8A and you want to set MAX output level, do it in few steps - 0%...20%...60%...100%.

Why? When the load is cold, its resistance almost equal to zero and in this case output load is like "short circuit".
