The aim of this design is to provide a low-cost CP/M system in a nice neat case. It uses the Z180 CPU for good performance and RomWBW firmware for a robust implementation of CP/M.

To order a full kit, select the following items from the options menus:

  • Main PCB - select required colour
  • Component set - select "Yes please"
  • Case shell - select required colour
  • Case panel (pair) - select required design
  • USB to serial adapter - select "Yes please"
  • USB cable - select "Yes please"

The full kit comprises parts to build the complete computer with the following main features:

  • Z180 CPU running at 18.432 MHz
  • 512k byte RAM
  • 512k byte Flash containing RomWBW
  • Two asynchronous serial ports
  • Micro SD card slot for storage
  • Voltage supervisor
  • USB to serial adapter and cables
  • Small neat case

RomWBW is a robust ROM-based operating system for retro computers. It includes CP/M 2.2 and Z-System and supports a wide range of hardware. RomWBW has been provided free of charge by its author Wayne Warthen. Thank you, Wayne, for providing this and all the support.

To allow a degree of customisation three different case colours are available: black, grey, and translucent blue. I'm even offering some options to select a different colour for the top and bottom halves of the case. The front and back panels will also soon be available in a range of colours and with a choice of 'logo'. So, no two systems need be the same. The full kit also includes an FTDI style serial adapter and USB lead to connect one of the serial ports to a computer running a terminal emulation program.

The full kit contains everything you need to build the computer, except a micro SD card, solder, tools and cleaning materials. There are a few fiddly tasks to perform when building this kit so it is not well suitable for inexperienced builders. You can read the assembly guide to see what is involved.

The Z180 CPU (Z8S180xx) is no longer in production and finding stock is becoming increasingly difficult. The CPU supplied in this kit is either the 20MHz or 33MHz version, and is either old or used stock. I test all of them before packing in kits. Some of the CPUs have superficial scratches. All other integrated circuits are brand new and from major retailers in the UK or USA.
