This module conforms to the RCBus specification v1.0 for RCBus-2014 and RCBus-Z80.

SC725 is a dual channel asynchronous serial plus four channel counter timer module.

The module is compatible with Z80 mode 2 interrupts which are supported by an interrupt priority daisy-chain (IEI and IEO signals)

Jumpers allow each serial port's baud rate clock to be selected from the RCBus CLK signal, the RCBus CLK2 signal and a frequency generated by the on board timer (Z80 CTC). Supported options will depend on the firmware and software used.

Two of the timer channels can be used to generate periodic interrupts.

Only one of these modules can be present in a system, although other serial modules with configurable addresses can also be present.

Jumpers allow serial port devices to be powered from the module or the retro computer to be powered from either serial port.

Compatibility

This module conforms to the RCBus specification v1.0 for RCBus-2014 and RCBus-Z80.

It functions with 40-pin backplanes but does not have access to the second clock as an alternative baud rate source. It also does not have access to output serial signals to the second pair of TX and RX pins. An RCBus-Z80 compliant backplane is required to create an IEI/IEO interrupt daisy-chain on the backplane rather than wires between modules.

The RCBus specification includes RCBus-2014 (both RC2014 standard 40-pin bus and RC2014 enhanced 60-pin bus) and also the full 80-pin RCBus. The 80-pin RCBus provides support for advanced Z80 features, such as the interrupt daisy-chain, as well as support for other processor families.

The Kit

This kit includes all the components needed to make the module, as shown in the first picture. Other modules and backplanes shown in the pictures are not included. You will require tools, solder, and cleaning materials to assemble this kit.

All the integrated circuits in this kit are new parts from major distributors in the UK or USA.
