A real hi-hat for your Alesis kit.

I'm Lorenzo — a drummer and electronics engineer, and the person who builds The Hat (formerly the Nitro Hat).

About a year ago I picked up an Alesis Nitro Max to learn drums. Great kit. But the hi-hat never moved like the one from my lessons — I had to stamp the pedal to the floor just to get a closed sound, and everything in between was missing. So I built the part I wanted: a hi-hat controller that reads every position of the pedal and plays it back as real hi-hat motion.

No add-on. A real upgrade.

The Nitro module won't talk to third-party hi-hat controllers, so there was nothing to buy. As an engineer, that's a problem I could solve. After a lot of iterations, testing and tweaking, I got it right.

The Hat mounts on a standard hi-hat stand and connects to your module with the original cable. Full press for a closed sound. Real motion for everything between. Proper drumming with the kit you already own.

From Reddit to your kit

I shared it on Reddit and the response was overwhelming. Three drummers volunteered as beta testers and I shipped them the first units. The feedback was so good that I made a few final improvements and moved to small-batch production. Around 40 drummers are playing The Hat today — and it's available for everyone.

The sale includes The Hat controller with all the mounting accessories you need — the hi-hat stand is not included.

• Using a Nitro Pro? You'll need a 6.35 → 3.5mm jack adapter. Add it by selecting Add 6.35mm Jack Adapter.
• By default, The Hat ships with M12x1.25 mounting, which fits the majority of modern hi-hat stands.
