The Protect Module is your essential safeguard for DC Power Electronics projects where you want to protect valuable electronics against over-voltage, reverse polarity or reverse current events.

  • Adjustable Overvoltage Cut-off: Simply turn the potentiometer to change the overvoltage cutoff voltage. Operates effectively with DC inputs from 5 to 30 volts with built in hysteresis for reliable turn on/off.

  • Reverse Polarity and Reverse Current Protection: Ideal diode behavior with an ultra-low voltage drop of 13.5 mV (typ) until about 14 A is reached. Use it simply as a protection module or to parallel multiple power supplies.

  • Reliable: The solid-state design removes the potential for mechanical failure. Our product is tested and well-documented.

  • Power Switch Function: Connecting a simple switch to the Enable terminal allows the Protect to act like a main power switch of your circuit. Use any low current switch to switch high current loads in a fully on or off fashion.

  • Fault Signal: A fault signal can be read by an external microcontroller to report when an overvoltage fault occurs. The open-drain output is pulled low during the fault and otherwise is pulled up to Vcc.

  • Easy Integration: Small 60 x 42 mm size with four M2 mounting holes make for easy mounting. Easily connect in series with your circuit using the included XT60 connectors. Add multiple Protect modules in parallel to build a power ORing controller between multiple power supplies.

I made this because I was tired of blowing up Dynamixel servos and driver shields when powering on my adjustable PSU. Although it protects against overvoltage, it also has an ideal diode functionality as well which blocks reverse current, making suitable for isolating the outputs of supplies wired in parallel.

It has an integrated soft-start which provides a transitory period in which the Protect module is checking your power supply input to see if it exceeds your adjustable threshold. If it does, the Protect module will detect this within a few microseconds and block the voltage from reaching your downstream circuits.

This module is made to block reverse current flowing between input and output, so if your power distribution system is regenerative, this product is not for you.

This module comes with high-quality XT60 connectors and is rated for up to 25 A of continuous current at 25 C ambient temperature. Wire-to-Board XT60 connectors are included with each module.
