Introduction

The Universal Cartridge enables users to print with lower operating cost and/or special resins. With the universal cartridge you can save up to $70 US per liter of resin and enjoy all the functionality of the Form 2 and Form 3, Form 3B and Form 3L.

Start using the universal cartridge and save a lot on material costs:

3rd party resin: 80 euro -> 83 euro per liter saving. After 20 liter: 1510 euro saved (1610 USD) After 40 liter: 3135 euro saved! (3500 USD) Above savings include the costs of a ready-to-run cartridge.

A Universal cartridge pays itself back within 1 to 2 liter of 3rd party resin.

How does it work?

The universal cartridge will be recognised by the printer as an original cartridge. It can be programmed using our software tool to any of the supported resins. More resins are added as they become available.

If you are a Form 2 user, you don't need "open mode" mode anymore as the heater, wiper and auto refill of the resin tank are enabled using this cartridge.

The following Formlabs printers are compatible: Form 2, Form 3, Form 3B, Form 3L. We have tested the universal cartridge successfully with the following printer firmware:

Form 3: 1.20.33 January 25, 2023 Form 2: 1.19.26 January 25, 2023

Last supported firmware version is 2.2.0.

Installation of module

Installation of a universal cartridge module is experienced as a relatively easy process and takes about 15 minutes work. You will need some CA-glue, a soldering iron to solder two wires and black tape.

Package contents Communication module (Provide your own empty cartridge) Mini USB Cable User manual The universal cartridge is configurable using a small tool which needs to run on a Windows PC. A small power supply (eg. 5v phone charger) is needed to power the cartridge while printing.

No cartridge is supplied with option 2(DIY). You need an empty and cleaned cartridge to install the module yourself. If you choose option 1, you do not have to do any modifications and the cartridge is ready to be used.

Supported resins

Most 3rd party resins work with one of the standard resin profiles(eg. Grey V4). The following resins can be selected at this moment:

Black V2, V3, V4 Durable V1, V2 Flexible V2 Tough V4, V5 Clear V2, V4 White V2, V3, V4 Grey V3, V4 High Temp V1, V2 Dental Model V2 Castable V1, V2 Please note that some resins have a maximum printing limit and all cartridges are limited to about 20 liter of resin.
