The z.mote is a performance-focused dual-trigger electric skateboard remote designed for riders and builders who want precise control, reliable wireless communication, and a high level of mechanical quality.
Designed for DIY electric skateboards, VESC-based builds, and custom electric vehicles, the z.mote combines a custom-designed PCB, high-quality components, advanced safety firmware, and a carefully engineered mechanical system into a compact ergonomic controller.
Many existing electric skateboard remotes rely on inexpensive switches, cheap potentiometers, and plastic-only structures. The z.mote was designed from the ground up to provide smoother control, better durability, and improved rider safety.

The z.mote uses automotive-grade Hall sensors instead of traditional potentiometers or mechanical switches.
This provides:
The trigger mechanism was designed to provide a natural riding experience with accurate and predictable control.
The latest trigger design includes transparent illuminated triggers with embedded TPU grip strips.
The TPU inserts improve:
The z.mote features a fully integrated customizable lighting system.
Each trigger contains two individually addressable RGB LEDs that shine through the transparent trigger body.
This allows:
The rear of the remote includes a dedicated high-brightness power LED with an optical lens designed for visibility from behind the rider.
The rear LED supports multiple modes including:
The last selected lighting configuration is saved and restored automatically after restarting the remote.
The z.mote was designed with long-term reliability in mind.
Critical structural areas do not rely on threaded plastic or weak mounting points.
Where mechanical strength is required, the design uses:
This allows the enclosure to be opened and serviced repeatedly without damaging the mounting points.
The complete mechanical system was designed around durability and serviceability rather than reducing manufacturing cost.
The z.mote uses a dedicated wireless communication system optimized for electric skateboard applications.
During testing, the remote maintained reliable communication even in challenging environments with multiple WiFi and Bluetooth devices nearby and physical obstacles between the remote and receiver.
In real riding conditions, the available communication range exceeds what is practically required for an electric skateboard, providing a stable and dependable connection.
The included receiver supports:
UART Communication
For advanced controllers and VESC-based builds.
PPM Output
For broader compatibility with different electric skateboard electronics.
Receiver connection options:
The receiver should be powered from a 5V supply.
Please message me after purchase with your preferred receiver connector type.
The z.mote supports common compact lithium-ion battery sizes:
Features include:
Due to shipping restrictions, batteries cannot be included unless DHL express is selected for shipping.
You will need to source your own compatible Li-ion battery.
Battery connector:
JST PH 2.0mm
The z.mote can be equipped with an optional Qi wireless charging module.
With this upgrade installed, the remote can be charged using compatible Qi wireless chargers while still keeping USB-C charging capability available.
The z.mote includes a second communication channel that can be used for controlling external accessories such as:
Electric skateboard remotes are safety-critical devices, so the z.mote includes multiple protections designed to prevent unwanted behavior.
Startup Calibration Check
The remote checks trigger positions during startup and prevents unsafe operation if the controls are not in the expected position.
Disconnect Protection
If communication is interrupted, power output is smoothly reduced instead of creating a sudden unexpected change.
Brake/Acceleration Protection
The firmware prevents harsh transitions when braking while accelerating, helping create a smoother and safer riding experience.
Handbrake Mode
When enabled, both acceleration and braking triggers can be disabled while the board is parked.
The z.mote was created after experiencing the limitations of many existing electric skateboard remotes.
The goal was simple:
Create a remote that feels good to use, lasts for years, and provides the reliability expected from a high-performance electric skateboard.
Every part was designed with that philosophy:
Each remote is programmed with a unique address before shipping to prevent interference between multiple z.mote remotes.
You will receive:
Additional receivers are available. Please contact me if you need extra units.
