Product: Faikout®: HA/WiFi/Ethernet Daikin controller 807 sold

After setting up the device, I was never able to connect to it again

My experience with this product was very frustrating and disappointing. My step-by-step experience:
1: I opened the package and was pleasantly surprised with how complete it was and how the print was designed
2: I connected the device to my Airco and powered it up
3: I connected to the WiFi AP an configured my WiFi and my MQTT server hostname
4: I power cycled the airco
5: The device did not connect to my WiFi
6: I looked at the device and noticed it was flashing red/green
7: With the help of Google AI, i spent 4 hours trying to get the device up again. (Switched RX/TX, disconnected the 5V reference, resetting the device, connecting it without RX/TX)
8: I never saw the device WiFi AP again, so I gave up

Response from RevK® at Andrews & Arnold Ltd:

That is very odd, sorry. There are two round pads on the back, if shorted three times it will factory reset. If still not working, can you let me know order number and I’ll send another.

Works perfectly, great someone takes the effort

Had to make the S21 connector on the generic cables. I think it would be better to also order the corresponding connector.
Easy detection and integration into Home Assistant and without a detour through a country or company that might decide slap a tarif.
Thank you for making this product available.

Thanks.

Perfect addition to my Daikin.

Installed on a Daikin Perfera FTXM25A.
The supplied cable came with Dupont jumper connectors. Those proved to be too large to properly fit in my connector.
I removed the plastic cap and insulated the wire termination with a piece of heatshrink tube. After determining the pin orientation and plugging it in it just worked.
Home assistant recognises it immedeately via MQTT autodiscovery. Highly recommended to anyone that aspires a cloud-free automation.

Response from RevK® at Andrews & Arnold Ltd:

That is an interesting approach. I wonder if there are 2mm header pins which will still fit in the 2.5mm connectors. I'll look in to it as it may help other people.

Works great

-- The most difficult part is accessing the connection in the unit.

Very good product though dismantling a daikin unit takes practice!

Must buy companion cable. Documentation should say what order to connect the loose fly-leads. And why is a UK sold product sold to UK customers in euros?

Response from RevK® at Andrews & Arnold Ltd:

https://codeberg.org/RevK/ESP32-Faikout/wiki/Wiring has lots of details on the leads and how to connect, surely?
The product is sold all over the world - Lectronz sell in €, sorry.

Love it, excellent product

The documentation on GitHub/Codeberg is very comprehensive.
Setup was simple, all steps are well documented, and all wiring is unique so it requires basic know-how ;)
The adapter itself works flawlessly and setup was very easy.

Thanks

It just works !

I ordered two controllers. After 2 months, I highly recommend the addition.
The software and hardware are solid. Regular updates. Features-rich UI. Stable software.
The documentation is slightly lacking on the _physical_ installation instructions.
I understand that Daikin models can vary. I could not find a step-by-step instructions guide for any specific model.
That said, it took 30 minutes to complete the first installation. Not a big issue.

Thanks.

Exactly as advertised

Shipped and received in about a week (as advertised). 3D printed case quality was better than expected, smooth finish. 2 pieces to click together, fits well. The module itself works well with home assistant and straight forward to set up.

Thanks.

Fixes Daikin's bad WiFi solution

This board fixes WIFI for Daikin ACs. Daikin ACs are really great with respect to cooling, but the WIFI solution (which was integrated with my AC) absolutely sucks:
You have to give your Daikin AC access to your WIFI, register with the Daikin cloud services, register your device in your account, and then have that device phone home, so that you can control it via a smartphone app. You do not have the option of local (i.e. non-cloud) control with Daikin's WIFI module. You also do not have the option of integrating it into your local building control (i.e. home assistant).
After plugging in the board into the S21 port on the AC, it just boots up and runs. You setup the WIFI, and then you can open a web UI running on the device, and control all features of the AC, locally. No cloud required. It also comes with MQTT support, so you can integrate it trivially into your local building control (like home assistant). It's absolutely refreshing to have something "just work".
One thing I did have a little trouble with: I purchased the board with the preconfigured 5-pin cable. While it did fit perfectly on the board end, it did not fit the AC side S21 port. I actually had to change the AC side connector to a smaller one, and even then I had to grind down the plug to get it to fit. I do not know if Daikin ACs come with different size S21 ports depending on the specific device. However, the S21 port on the Daikin Perfera floor unit is too small to take the sold cable here... requires some customization to get that to work. I changed the AC side connector, and even had to grind it down in size after.

Response from RevK® at Andrews & Arnold Ltd:

Thanks for the review - yes the cable is generic, sorry - we try to make this very clear. Some models need a different connector. Well done sorting it.
