Fast shipping and easy installation

I installed this in an NTSC C2600A and had very few issues with installation. I had one pin that wasn't making good contact, which just needed a little more solder reflow, but be sure to check continuity between the chip's pin and the corresponding pad on the TIARA. Also watch the "New and improved Atari 2600 S-Video and composite mod - TIARA V2" YouTube video for a few hints, such as expected shorted pins for NTSC models.
I haven't fully wired up the s-video connector yet, but did a quick test using composite on a LCD TV and it looks amazing. It is basically how I (falsely) remember it looks back in the day!

I installed the RFOFF (with Luma bypass option) in my NTSC Commodore 128, connected to a 27" Trinitron CRT. From the excellent before/after video, I wasn't expecting perfect video output, but realize that there will still be jailbars and adjust your expectations.

That said, they are much less noticeable even on the worst case BASIC 7.0 startup screen and I don't think most people would notice them in actual usage. The installation instructions were a little lacking, but they basically boil down to "desolder and remove the old RF unit and solder in this one". Maybe a short real-time video showing the process would help.

Shipping was amazingly fast. It was out of Australia and into the United States in 2 days...and then sat in Chicago for almost a week!

All in all, I am very happy with this purchase. It was fun to take apart my C128 which had always just worked (unlike coughcoughc64breadbin) and improve it with this worthwhile upgrade, and highly recommend it to any C128 owner.

A worthwhile upgrade

I had been looking to upgrade the video quality of my Commodore 64 and found RFOFF in a YouTube video. Mark, creator of The Retro Channel, described the device and gave clear instructions on how to install it. I ordered it, and it came from Australia to the U.S.A. in a reasonable time. It was well-packaged for the trip and didn't have any damage. The version I got had the HDMI connector to go with a VIC-II Kawari, because I may purchase that in the future. Installation was not too difficult for a novice solderer; the hardest part was removing the old RF modulator. The new RFOFF fit perfectly and worked without any trouble-shooting. Picture quality definitely improved, with only a faint, few jailbars still visible. I also like the configurable audio-output jack on the RFOFF. I have a SidKick Pico in my C64 and intend to use the jack for stereo output. All-in-all, I'm glad I chose the RFOFF. Mark was helpful in helping me choose the right model for my machine, and the build quality is excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to order from him again, and I wish him well in his small business. His knowledge and experience are an asset to the retro community.
