These are designed as a drop-in replacement for the original aging and power hungry ROMs. Unlike other designs and 28 to 24 pin EPROM adaptors, these hide all the ugly stuff out of sight to provide the cleanest possible look. Just make sure not to short the exposed joints on the top of the ROMs to anything metal (like an RF shield).

Power consumption is around 5mA (25mW) vs the 70mA (350mW) of the original mask ROMs. As such these run completely cool and consume a fraction of the power, ensuring they will almost certainly outlast all the originals and help lower the overall tempreature of your machine.

Note: These ROMs (except the character ROMs) are not suitable for the C64 shortboard rev. 250469 or the 1541C with a single rom chip or 1541-II

SX-64 uses the same BASIC and character ROMs, only the Kernal ROM is unique. Some SX-64's may have 28 pin ROMs installed, in the case install the replacement ROM in the lower portion of the socket (leaving pins 1,2,27,28 on the socket empty)

VIC-20 Kernal ROM must match your machine. Installing a NTSC Kernal in a PAL machine or vice-versa will not work.

901460-03/901225-01 dual character ROMs include a small switch on the bottom edge that sticks out by 1mm from the underside of the PCB. It is safe to switch fonts while the machine is running, but as the VIC-20 font is quite narrow on a C64 it may not be legible on certain displays (probably why Commodore didn't use it to begin with). For best results, an RF modulator replacement is recommended.

901229-05+JIFFYDOS includes a licensed version of JiffyDOS for fast disk access. It also includes the regular 901229-05 1541 ROM, either of which are selectable using a jumper on the PCB. Pin headers were chosen to allow easy wiring to an external switch if preferred, although I've never found an issue with JiffyDOS always activated on the 1541.

Note while 1541 JiffyDOS will work with the standard C64 kernal, a JiffyDOS kernal in the 64 is required to take full advantage of JiffyDOS. Without JiffyDOS in the 64, the 1541 will run at the regular (slow) speed. You can use the 4 Kernal switcher for JiffyDOS on the C64 side.

All boards are hand assembled and tested before shipping.
