LED strip controller for use with WS281X/SK6812 RGB/RGBW addressable LED strips.
This works with a range of LED strips using the popular WS281X, and SK6812 chip sets. The data line is 3.3V which works with these strips, even with strips powered from 12V, when connected directly to the strip.
Fun - I have loads of these around the house.
LED strips come in a range of lengths and densities and voltages. If you are new to LED strips, one of the main things to consider is power requirements. A typical 5V LED strip can easily be powered from the USB in-line with via this board, if using a USB charger (i.e. 2A+), but high density strips and multiple strips may need additional power supplies. The power also depends how you use the strip, so if you are not running all LEDs on full brightness white you may not need as much power.
If you want longer strips, a 12V type, such as WS2815, is ideal, and you can power this board from the strip easily in this case. Strips normally have a pair of extra wires for power - connect that to 12V, and connect the three wires to this board (no USB connected). Note 4 wire WS2815 only need 3 wires connected to the controller (GND/DI/PWR).
This module has the USB power connected direct to the strip connector, so do not connect USB when connecting power over 5V as well.
