What is it?

A main PCB in a 3D printed white translucent resin case as a drinks coaster.

  • ESP32-S3-MINI-1-N4-R2 (Dual CPU, 4M flash, 2M SPI RAM)
  • USB-C for power and USB
  • TDK ICS 43434 MEMS microphone for audio reactive lighting effects
  • 124 WS2812 style RGB LEDs in rings 4+8+16+32+64

Full white on all LEDs uses under 2A from 5V USB, typical usage way lower. Bear this in mind when connecting USB as USB-A (e.g. from a computer) only has to provide 0.5A. Most phone chargers will provide 2.1A though.

Typical usage is audio sound ractive colourful LEDs (Fourier transform) activated when a drink is place on the coaster then running for a time.

Supplied with my LED code, but can also be loaded with WLED code (select ESP32S3).

Why did you make it?

Fun, and testing my code for LED placement in KiCAD, which is not easy. It is cool, and adding printing using my new UV printer means it can be extra special. I'm obviously a stargate fan!

If you want your own design printing, I'll email you to get artwork: The coaster is 110mm diameter with a 90mm recessed artea in the centre which is ideal for any circular design. Vector (SVG) preferred. I usually only print on the back for stargate designs where I havce a design that avoids the feet and microphone hole.

Stargate print designs from Max Willis, with thanks.
